Hi! I'm just a typical college kid getting into music theory, song writing and digital production after a 3-year fling with the ukulele and minimal piano experimentation. I'm learning theory through online and literary sources in my free time, and have been writing some verses, but want to get some sound behind them. Initially, I bought a cheap Casio Mini Piano, but the quality and ability of it doesn't seem to be enough for what I'm going for.
The Akai MPK Mini MK2 is a huge improvement over its predecessor. It won't completely replace a larger keyboard with full-sized keys or even a dedicated drum pad controller, but if you're looking for a compact, portable MIDI keyboard for composing music on the go and/or looking to save space on your desk it's hard to go wrong with this model. After consulting dozens of musicians and hours of research, I can confidently say that these are the best MIDI keyboards on the market today: Akai MPK249 ($$$) Novation Launchkey 61 MK2 ($$) Akai MPK Mini MKII ($) Nektar Panorama P6 ($$$) M-Audio Code 49 Black ($$) IK Multimedia iRig Keys Compact ($). MPK mini MIDI Editor Unlock the true potential of your MPK mini with the MPK mini MIDI Editor software. This MIDI editor is a powerful preset management software that lets MPK Mini users customize their hardware and software setup on their Mac or PC. Item 1 AKAI MPK Mini mkII 25-Key USB MIDI/Pad Controller - AKAI MPK Mini. Or enjoys remixing other artists work then you can't go wrong with the Akai MPK Mini Pro. Plug-And-Play For maximum portability, MPK Mini MKII requires no software drivers or external power adapter for operation. Combining plug-and-play connectivity, a seamless USB-MIDI connection and power via a single USB connection to your Mac or PC, MPK Mini MKII is a portable production powerhouse.
As a full-time college student with a low hour, slightly-above-minimum-wage job, my budget is relatively low. I figure going for smaller MIDI's would be my best course of action, as the minis are always lest costly than the normal counterparts.
My research over the past couple of weeks has led me to the Novation Launchkey Mini and Akai MPK Mini, from what I can tell they are higher-end MIDIs packed into a portable, cheaper solution which is perfect for me and my double-sized dorm. Smartshow 3d serial key and email.
That last option is me not being sure that this tools are going to help me in the direction I feel I want to go artistically. I'm going for mild techno, semi-ballad type songs (I'm sure my terminology is on point, but bear with me), in a similar vein to 21 Pilots, verging on Bastille or Jon Bellion. I don't know what kinds of sounds I can produce in packages provided with the two products, but if there's a better option that is just a ~$100 MIDI software not packaged with a controller, I figure I'd be better off 'drawing' chords and other effects in that than making sounds I don't need with one of these keyboards.
Sorry for being long-winded, but if anyone can point me in the right direction, it'd be very appreciated! I'm incredibly excited to try expressing myself in a new way but don't know how to get there just yet.

Hi guys. My brother purchased an Akai MPK Mini keyboard. He's been really sad about it though, because he has no idea how to set it up. I tried helping him, but I'm not entirely sure how these things work either.
He's managed to connect it to Ableton Live, so we can see a dot appear, showing that it's registering, when we push a key on the keyboard, but absolutely no sound is coming out. If anybody here could, in very specifics, for dummmies if you will, post how to make sound come out of these keyboards, I'd be very grateful.
Basically, whenever we try recording, and push the keys, it registers no soundwaves whatsoever. I'm not sure, if we have to attach some sort of sound package or whatever to the keyboard in order to make it work. It's all very confusing to me.
